Legalization of Documents

To be legally accepted in Brazil, a document issued abroad must be legalized by a Brazilian Consular Service with jurisdiction over the territory where such document was expedited. Official documents, school transcripts, diplomas, power-of-attorney, commercial papers, contracts, donation letters and other documents and papers all require the consular stamp in order to be valid in Brazil.

 

Requirements

Except for official documents , all other papers (i.e.commercial papers, contracts and any other paper), prior to its submission to the Embassy, must first be authenticated by the Ministry of External Affairs, Patiala House, New Delhi. After that, the original documents must be submitted to the Brazilian Embassy, to be legalized.

All official documents must bear the organization letterhead, the official stamp or dry (raised) seal and the signature of the authorized person.

The Embassy will only legalize original documents. Photocopies will be certified as true copies, as long as they are presented to the Consular Office with the corresponding original documents.

Documents must be submitted to this Embassy with all pages stapled and numbered (eg. 1 of 16, 2 of 16. 16 of 16).

 

Consular fees

 

No fee for documents related to donations
Rs.1,200/- per document, for all other purposes upto a maximum of 3 pages with proof of continuation/proof that it is a part of the same document
Rs.3,600/- for documents more than 3 pages with proof of continuation/proof that it is a part of the same document

 

The Embassy only accepts payment by Bank Draft made out to the "Embassy of Brazil" and payable New Delhi.

The Embassy may request additional information or documentation, as deemed necessary.

Processing time: two to three business days from the date we receive your document.

Powers-of-attorney of non-Brazilian citizens must be:

Brazilian citizens and permanent residents with valid "Registro Nacional de Estrangeiro"–RNE ID (permanent resident ID) should see "procuração".

Non-Brazilian citizens must have the power-of-attorney (written in English or in Portuguese) sworn and duly authenticated by a Notary Public and by the Ministry of External Affairs; only then should the power-of-attorney be brought to the Embassy for legalization.

If not written in Portuguese, the power-of-attorney will require, in order to be legally enforced in Brazil, to be translated in Brazil by a Public Sworn Translator ("tradutor público juramentado") and subsequently registered at the "Cartório de Registro de Títulos e Documentos" of the same Brazilian city where the transactions specified in the document will take place.

A fee: Rs 1200/- for each signature will be charged.

Diplomas and School Papers


In order to be legally binding in Brazil, all documents, including diplomas and school transcripts issued abroad, must be legalized by a Brazilian Consular Service with jurisdiction over the County where the school is located.

Requirements


Bring to the Embassy the original document(s) to be legalized. School transcripts must bear the school letterhead, the official stamp or dry (raised) seal, and the signature of the Principal or the school official.

All documents must be attested by the Ministry of External Affairs, Patiala House, New Delhi
appropriate consular fee payment.

 

Fees
· Rs.300/- per document up to 3 documents, referring to the same person
· Rs.900/- for 4 documents or more, referring to the same person
· Rs.300/- for diploma
· Rs.300/- for certificate

All school transcripts and diplomas legalized by the Embassy must be translated into Portuguese by an official translator ("tradutor juramentado") in Brazil.
