Certificate of Life - Non Brazilians

To obtain a certificate of life, the foreigners holding/not holding a valid Brazilian Identity Card "Registro Nacional de Estrangeiro (RNE)" have to present themselves at the Embassy of Brazil in whose jurisdiction they live.

 

Documentation Required:

Form for Certificate of Life filled and duly signed by the applicant
Original and copy of the identity card or passport
for foreigners resident in Brazil, copy of the passport and the valid Brazilian Identity Card "Registro Nacional de Estrangeiro (RNE)";
In case of change of name of the applicant then documentaton to prove the same in original and a copy
Foreigners not holding the Brazilian Identity Card must get the Certificate of Life attested by the Ministry of External Affairs, Patiala House, New Delhi .The Embassy will then legalize this signature

The Embassy reserves the right to request for additional documentation.

 

Fees:
Rs1000.00 per document

Fees are to be paid by pay order only favouring "Embassy of Brazil" payable at New Delhi.

Time taken to process the certificate of life is 2 to 3 working days.

 

Certificate of Life before a Public Notary:


Incase a Brazilian citizen or holder of a valid Brazilian Identity card finds it impossible to present himself/herself at the Embassy due to genuine health/age reasons then the law nº 7115, de 29/08/1983, articles 1º ao 5º, permits the use of a declaration by the interested person with the signature attested as a certificate of life. In this case the interested person must sign the declaration and have the signature attested by the notary public and then legalised by the Ministry of External Affairs, Patiala House, New Delhi. The original of this declaration must be sent to the Embassy for legalization. This legalization will be free.
